Valarie Baron

Biography

Valerie Baron is the National Policy Director and a Senior Attorney for the Safe Water Initiative at NRDC. She works with impacted communities to secure safe, sufficient, and affordable drinking water, with a particular focus on eliminating lead hazards. Baron has more than 15 years of experience advancing environmental health policy and legal strategies. She has secured policy and funding gains at the federal, state, and local levels. At NRDC, she began as an Equal Justice Works Law Fellow and has since held multiple leadership and attorney roles across food, health, and equity teams. Earlier in her career, she worked on political campaigns and as a Democratic staffer on the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, where she worked to reduce childhood lead poisoning from consumer products, especially toys. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a J.D. and master’s in environmental studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Baron is based in Washington, D.C..
