Biography
Brian is the Director of Food Policy for Consumer Reports, where he leads advocacy efforts to advance a safe and healthy food system and brings extensive legislative and regulatory experience in food policy. He authors Food Policy Insider, CR’s monthly newsletter, and co-chairs the FDA Foods Coalition, advocating for a modernized and effective food safety program at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Previously, Brian served as Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, overseeing the Food Safety and Inspection Service and chairing both the U.S. Codex Policy Steering Committee and the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods. He has also held senior regulatory affairs roles at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Arent Fox LLP, worked on food and nutrition policy in the office of U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro, and currently serves on the board of the Partnership for Food Safety Education and the Food Forum of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
