Biography

Dean Mochrie is the Senior Safety Engineer for Cal/OSHA’s Asbestos and Carcinogen Unit. Prior to joining Cal/OSHA, he spent more than 30 years in the environmental consulting industry, specializing in hazardous building materials including asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality. Dean has been certified by Cal/OSHA since 1998, first as a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) and later as a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) in 2005. He is also certified by the California Department of Public Health’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch as an Inspector/Assessor and Project Monitor. In 2024, Dean joined Cal/OSHA to lead the Asbestos and Carcinogen Unit, bringing three decades of real-world experience to the regulation of hazardous materials in service of worker safety and public health across California.
